What are the locks/bandhas talked about in yoga? Why are they important? What do they do and are they necessary? How will they enhance my practice? Unique to Kundalini Yoga is the powerful use of these locks to direct energy and utilize awareness of the breath and body right from the first time you are on the mat.
If your practice is primarily a Hatha flow your yoga will move to a while new level if you understand and begin to utilize these locks – although you may have been practicing flow yoga for years and never head mention of them – they are part of the definition of yoga: the combination of asanas, pranayama and bandhas. It’s really NOT yoga without them!
Elizabeth/Gurumukh East began Kundalini Yoga in 1981 and still remembers her first experience of maha bandha (the great lock). What a revelation to hold this space in the body, to begin to explore the peace and quiet we can achieve in the mind when we use the locks.
Elizabeth/Gurumukh East has the natural ability to make difficult concepts clear, to help you make them your own and to get clarity by doing so. Join her as you explore the 4 major locks of the body through the practice of breath and asana to move energy and support your posture toward health.
